4 Easy Ways to Make Healthy Food Choices

4 Easy Ways to Make Healthy Food Choices

Food choices are a large part of adopting a healthy lifestyle.

It can be a challenge to know what to eat and when to eat it, as well as what ingredients to buy, how to use them and just how much of each thing you should be eating!

If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed as you embark on your healthy living journey, try these 4 tips to make healthy food choices easier:

1. Find healthy friends

If you surround yourself with people who make unhealthy food choices, spend their weekends out drinking and partying and go out every day for lunch from the office, it makes it way harder for you to be the one who doesn’t.

If this fits the description of your friends, venture out a bit and seek the company of other individuals who lead a more health-conscious lifestyle, such that it makes it easy for you to do the same.

Maybe you can have coffee with someone from your fitness class, or go to a local running group meet up.

Seek out ways in your community to meet like-minded healthy people and it will be way easier to feel comfortable and maintain your new healthy habits!

2. Make it convenient

If it’s hard, takes too much time, or is an inconvenience than the healthy choice won’t be the one that you go for.

Make it convenient, by pre-cutting your veggies and storing them in the fridge in a container, ready to grab; cook extra dinner so that you can have leftovers and have a lunch that is ready to be heated up.

Each weekend, take some time to do some meal prep, such as chopping up veggies, portioning out smoothie packs and baking healthy snacks so that it is easy and convenient for you to eat healthy meals all week long!

3. Keep it simple

Don’t get caught up in thinking that healthy has to be hard: indeed sometimes we overthink it so much, or try to plan it out so much that it becomes overwhelming and we can’t be bothered.

When it comes to cooking, use the ingredients you have on hand and add flavor using herbs and spices.

To mix things up, try a few different vegetables each week, or a new type of pasta, but don’t feel like every night has to be a brand new recipe.

If you’re up for the challenge, use time on the weekends to try out some new baking ingredients and come up with your core selection of favorite, healthy baked goods which you can regularly make to have on hand!

4. Get everyone involved

If you are cooking for a family, it can make it really hard to be healthy if you are trying to do it all on your own.

Start slowly, and gradually introduce new healthy food choices in to your family dinners.

Ask the kids to help you prepare ingredients or cook meals and help them understand the value of a healthy lifestyle.

Having everyone involved makes it easier for you, and if they feel like they are a part of it, they will be more likely to be open to the idea of change and the new dishes that are landing on the table!
