Barbie now come in 3 different body shapes

Last week Mattel announced they are launching a whole new series of Barbies. Now Barbie comes in 3 different body shapes, seven skin tones, 22 eye colours, and 25 hairstyles.

The three new body shapes are: curvy, petite and tall.

For the last 50 years Barbie has only come in one size: impossible. She wasn't just thin, she was completely disproportionate and didn't reflect the human figure in a realistic way. The new body shapes more accurately reflect the female figure, although some features like her neck, wrists and tiny feet are still unrealistic, they are still after-all a doll and don't have to 100% carbon copy a woman's body.

Do you think the company that makes Barbie will also make adjustments to equally unrealistic Ken's body? What about "Dad Bod Ken"?

We think this is great progress. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!

I think it’s wonderful that Mattel is showing that women come in a variety of shapes and sizes. I Dont agree with the “dad bod” for Ken I think it promotes obesity which us a major problem in our country. I believe Mattel can show diversity in size for Barbie and Ken but for me the “dad bod” isn’t the way to go. I also believe Mattel could be more diverse in nationality so ALL boys and girls can see dolls that represent themselves. Great job at stepping outside the box Mattel.

I think it’s great. I guess they will need to have extra sizes of the new ones clothes, shoes, they won’t fit Barbie’s clothes or shoes. I think it was a great move

Wow..yeah, these are bad. It’s great to consider all the different body types but it’s borderline sending the wrong message. Especially the “Dad Bod Ken”. They’re not only promoting an unhealthy lifestyle by kind of encouraging to not feel the need to maintain a healthy weight, but the OBESE Ken is just embarrassing. First of all, the other barbies are what you’d call Plus-Sized. The Ken is misproportionedl, with short arms, a double chin, and he isn’t even smiling. I also hope that Mattel is planning on making other dolls plus sized and overweight as well, and NOT JUST THE CAUCASIAN ONES.?

I think it is awful. This is spreading the massage that obesity is okay for your health and that it is normal when in fact its not. Obesity is a serious problem. Obesity can cause serious health implications and by promoting dolls that “represent the human race” you are promoting obesity. People do not realize how much of a major problem obesity has become in our culture today because of things like this making you feel that it is normal. I am not talking about a little cushion I’m talking about being so overweight it effects your health. 1 in 5 americans have deaths now associated with obesity… to me that sounds like a major problem so I’m gonna have to vote no for the “dad bod” barbie doll.
